Good spooks and scares for all
I never liked horror.
I was scared of the tamest of thrills - recurring dreams of the little green ghost from Ghostbusters threatened to keep my awake all night. Jaws gave me nightmares about a giant shark consuming my house, which somehow landed in the middle of the ocean.
I assumed I wasn't cut out for horror, or anything close to it. I stopped watching something if it raised even the slightest uncomfortable feeling in my stomach.
Until one day. It was a typical "Netflix and Chill" date. I looked through the scant DVD collection and chose Shutter Island on a whim. "It's more like a mystery." I was told. Okay - we'll give it a shot.
I ended up being so engrossed in the story I completely ignored my date. The dark, clammy hallways kept my attention. The inevitable sense of doom, Leonardo DiCaprio's insatiable self-destruction was the most curious sensation I ever connected with in a story.
The date didn't go anywhere but the interest in horror stories stayed.
You'll find stories with dark themes. Death, ghosts, disturbing time-loops, protagonists who fail to separate truth from fiction. A woman who fails to take steps to save her own life. A musician haunted by a dead teacher and a lethal secret.
Then again, other stories are more light-hearted. A pair of cats fighting ghosts in their apartment building.
